Professor Ferrannini also holds a post as a Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Diabetes Division of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas. Currently serving as the president of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), Professor Ferrannini has a special research interest in diabetes, in particular insulin resistance and compensatory insulin secretion. Professor Ferrannini has published over 300 articles in peer-reviewed journals, he is serving on numerous editorial boards, has been the Editor-in-Chief of Diabetologia and has served as an editor of the International Textbookof Diabetes Mellitus. |

Francine Kaufman, MD, is Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics and Communications at the Keck School of Medicine and the Annenberg School of Communications, University of Southern California; Head of the Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles She has published hundreds of articles; her most recent book is Diabesity (Bantam, 2005). She is chair of the Studies to Treat (the TODAY trial) and Prevent (the HEALTHY trial) Type 2 Diabetes in Youth (STOPP-T2) and a principal investigator in TrialNet, a multinational consortium evaluating ways to prevent type 1 diabetes. Formerly the national president of the American Diabetes Association (2002-2003), Kaufman is a board member of Shaping America's Health. She has been active with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the National Diabetes Education Program (chair, 2008-2011) and the International Diabetes Federation (chair of the Youth Section, 2006-2009). In 2007 she co-chaired a task force for the State of California on diabetes prevention and treatment and was featured in the Discovery Health documentary Diabetes: The Global Epidemic. She was elected to the Institute of Medicine in 2005. In May, 2009, she will become the Chief Medical Officer and VP of Global Medical Affairs of Medtronic Diabetes. |
Prof. Antonio Ceriello
Antonio Ceriello é Professor de Diabetes e Endocrinologia na Universidade de Warwick, Inglaterra e Professor Adjunto de Medicina na Universidade da Cidade de Oklahoma, Estados Unidos.
Professor Ceriello tem publicado amplamente na área de diabetes com mais de 200 artigos e capítulos de livros. Prof. Ceriello foi consultor do Instituto Nacional de Saúde, nos Estados Unidos para o programa de pesquisas entre 2003 e 2005, relacionado a doenças cardiovasculares e diabetes tipo1 e é, atualmente, membro do comitê editorial da Associação Americana de Cardiologia das diretrizes em “Hiperglicemia Aguda e Síndromes Coronárias Agudas”. Recentemente, fez parte do comitê da IDF (Federação Internacional de Diabetes, em português) para o desenvolvimento do “Guia para Gestão da Glucose Pós-Refeição” e, atualmente, é Presidente do Grupo de estudos da EASD (Associação Européia para Estudos do Diabetes, em português) para “Diabetes e Doenças Cardiovasculares”.Ele também atua como Editor Associado das revistas “Diabetes Care” e “Diabetic Medicine”. Prof. Ceriello é o vencedor do Prêmio Castelli Pedroli da EASD, no ano de 2004. |

Jaime A. Davidson, M.D., of Dallas is a physician and serves as president of the Endocrine and Diabetes Associates of Texas and clinical associate professor of Internal Medicine UT Southwestern Medical School. Davidson is being reappointed to the council. He serves as a member of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. His previous appointments include Midwestern State University regent, Texas Diabetes Council chairman and membership on the National Diabetes Advisory Board. A graduate of Liceo de Costa Rica, he received a medical degree from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. He completed his training in internal medicine at Scott and White Hospital, now Texas A&M Univerisity System Health Science Center at Temple, and completed his endocrinology training at Indiana University School of Medicine. His term will expire Feb. 1, 2011. |
